100 Copies!

We interrupt these writing prompts for something very different…

If you’re a fan of something and want to find like-minded people, chances are you’ll go online. Danielle Aubert went a different way…

Danielle is a fan of the 1974 novel The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Leguin. She decided she would buy used copies of the book (she’s purchased 100 so far) to see where readers underlined passages or wrote notes in the margins. Then she organized a reading.

On Friday the 13th at Art Metropole seven of us gathered around a table and chose used copies of the book. There was one main reader. You followed along and when you came to a passage that was underlined, you would read that passage along with her. When you had notes in the margins, you put up your hand, the reader would stop, and you would read your note.

To hear multiple voices speaking in unison as emphasis for a particular sentence or paragraph was incredibly powerful. I’m thrilled that I was able to participate in such a unique event.
